Vampires and Liches are self-explanatory since they are a specific type of undead. But what about the basic undead qrace?
Is it supposed to be a catch-all term for zombies, skeletons, ghouls, etc? Meaning that you can be whatever you want it to be.

I know there have mummy and skeleton restrings. I've already seen a lich restring. I believe in the time of Viri, there was a ban on vamp restrings...
"Ask for it and you may get it" seems to be the general rule. "Don't ask and you won't get it" is also applicable.
Okay, but then barring a restring, what is the basic undead supposed to be?
Not a living thing? Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh am I missing something?
An unliving human. Zombie.
I think the best way to summarize it would be that it is a non-living being. It's a being, that moves and everything, but it is not alive.

Fair enough, that's all I wanted to know.
Zombie isn't really the best example. Traditionally, zombies are slow and dumb. In FL, they're smart enough to be mages (i'd never play one) and quick enough to be thieves and blms (has there been an undead blm yet?) I would describe FL undeads as a blend of the lower level intelligent undeads of lore. They're the avatar o' death. The probably look zombie-ish but they don't act or move like them.
Undead is the collective name for all types of supernatural entities that are deceased yet behave as if alive. Undead may be spiritual, such as ghosts, or corporeal, such as animated corpses.
