How does the madness work in relation to normal characters? Do deaths count? Do other things that happen stay?

Supposedly no, but we were warned on taking chances.
Your other characters don't exist inside the madness I believe.
When Madness first started, the pfiles were still there. Now they are not.

Another question:
How did the blue team/red team thing work? I didn't get a chance to join in but it sounded great.
It was pretty good for CTF. The leader of each team held the flag, the other team had to kill the leader, get the flag, and take it to their base. (Leaders got boosted HP). For one of the first ones, me and Festy got to become leaders (Me on blue, Festy for red), and suffice to say, I pretty much romped everybody before the Imms sent me a tell and told me not to fight properly so that I could give the disheartened red team a chance.
Don't know if there were any more apart from another straight after, with Izlo as blue team leader and ????? as red team leader.

Virigoth was the Red Team leader but blue killed him and well.. forgot to pick up the flag for some reason, Peewee made away with it and Viri got their flag and we won again. : )
I was a team Leader. Mudder.
Almost had to make a tie.
Then I fought 2 invokers without a sanc.. 3,000 hps never felt so small. Lol.
Meroltas(sp?) was blue team Leader.
How was the melee event? I was going to join in but I decided it'd be more fun running about Rheydin getting cheap kills to feed my malform (as I was very pleased about finding out how to malform a weapon).

Oh Come on. Fufu took you on fair and square (I think). I saw you alone, and decided to go in for the kill. What was it, 4 anihilates? Yeah. 
The Melee fest came down to me, Ehoannei, and Virigoth. He won because he had sanc and I didn't have a vial. : (
