um yea what do they do and whats a good one to practice with?

Staves can be though of at any staff that is not a weapon. Although, some staves are not staffs...they can be orbs or stones as well.

You wear it and you brandish it

They all have different effects. I will use one from the Draconian Castle for example. An invisible man by the holy draconian has a black staff.

Hold it, brandish it, and voila...lvl 22 energy drain (which is what a lvl 25 DK casts)

Staves do allsorts depending on what stave you have. For example, instead of having a potion that you quaff for sanctuary, there is a stave that has multiple charges of sanctuary to keep using until the stave runs out of charges (by charges, I mean, how many times the spell on the stave can be casted).

Dey

Let me just say, that rangers and necros have an easier time mastering staves, if you use the stave that Dey mentioned, or another stave that affects the whole group.

or just pick the automaster stave perk. i don't think anyone uses that except for me, heh.

Staff is the easiest of the wand/staff/scroll group to master. Look for a certain very very easy to get control weather staff with 25 charges (near Val).

Or just master it at 50 with all the glimmering staffs you use
