In melee, a battlemage can be very effective at 30. Blur, air shield, terra shield, armor, shield, stone skin? Add in colour spray, localize gravity and a couple other spells bmages get, and they do pretty well in the end.

Not really. Any dual wield class will run you over if they use the right weapons. Invokers will tear you apart.
But you can be unlaggable, so you shouldn't die, but you may not get the kill.
Maybe not you or me, but the average player who cannot be lagged will still be killed by a good player, because they will just get chased down. And I could see a human bmage getting two rounded by a fire warrior with dual fiery daggers.

They do. But battlemage will get tore to shreds by a fire giant, ogre, any giant with magical weapons. Let alone a DK with them and fireball/lightning.
And heaven forbid they have a magic nodisarm.
Those people will tear up rogues at that rank too. And probably invokers and other mages too, as well as communers. Moot point.

So you can't kill or win against everything at 30 with a bmg...guess what? Killing EVERYthing in sight isn't so important for what rank 30 bmgs might want.

Invokers definitely are 
Smart invokers at 30 can do some serious damage. People there don't have the HP to handle more than a couple ice storms unsanced.
They don't have the saves to handle fireballs either.
At 30 Fireballs are not that cheep for DK's.
My Rank 27-28 Dk got killed by a 30 BMG. Made him run once. He made me run 3 times. Then he killed me.

The average player will get killed by the good player 9 times out of 10 regardless of the class situation, because of that exact reason.
