two handed defence

Just a quick query, I know certain weapon types defend well in terms of weapon block - namely staff and polearm are the two i tend to use, but how well do the others compare - 2 handed maces? Swords? etc

Good question. Not really sure I have the answer for you, as it would lie in the code.

Haberdasher helpfully posted a thread further down, with the stats for each weapon type (offense/defense/disarm etc. etc.). Here are the weapon stats for defense:

Defense: 1 being the most defensive; 10 being the least

1. Staffs

2. Polearms

3. Swords/Spears (helpfile did NOT explicitly state which of the two was more defensive, just that both were more so than daggers)

4. Daggers

5. Maces/Exotics (helpfile explicitly stated that these are equally defensive)

6. Flails

7. Axes

Whips

Now, I imagine that list of weapons would play a part in how well a weapon can two-hand block something, such as a polearm would defend (weapon-block, parry) better than a two-handed mace, but a two-handed mace would defend better than a two-handed flail. I can't say for sure, but it makes sense that two-handed weapon blocking would follow that list.

Its Staves > Polearms > Spears on two handed.

All the other ones are awfull with two handed.

And no, two handed swords are awfull. You are better with a polearm.

In fact, the only reason i see to wield a two handed weapon other than this, is clerics who wield 2handed flails/whips to increase their ofense/damage vs mages.

Else you are better dual wielding or shield defending.

was maces I was mainly thinking about, sucks that most of the good maces are 2 handed, unless you happen to be a giant I guess

Is it better to wear a shield and a staff, or just staff, defense wise for giants?

Although giants can wield two-handed weapons with one hand, polearms/staffs need two-hands to wield, regardless of race. Can't wield a staff with shield, apart from a special case involving healers.

I think I know what you're talking about, but I completely forgot about it. I think it would be a good idea to perhaps post it in the Prayer Forum, because it seems quite weird to me. That is, if we're thinking of the same thing.

It porbably its a bug, i remenber viri once stating that polearms cannot ever be wielded on one handed. And he porceded to correct something that enabled it.

Now i would supose this extends to staves. He also said that there was a evil one handed staff.

Only staff vs Staff + shield.

Depends. If warrior go staff.

Other perhaps staff + shield.

My Storm Giant wielded a staff and a shield several times, then all of a sudden I couldn't. I guess they changed it while I was doing it
