Yes and no. That quest was always there to show where the temples are even when looting pits was a crime.
But yeah...it makes that newbie quest all the more valuable now.

heh heh... yeah, first thing I do as rank 1 is walk through the newbie arena and check all the pits in the towns you can get to from there... it's amazing what you'll find in Marak's pits sometimes...

Man...those altar boys sure do bleed alot when hit with a four foot candle and you just won't believe it...real monks don't own my ***, they must not have trained their anata...newbs, I mean I didn't see a SINGLE second parry, wasn't hit with a chakra...and I don't even think they had beads! I mean, I would have at least expected SOME kickboxing.
