Locked Best time and class to learn PK?

Time and time again have I heard from other players that you should reach pinnacle as fast as you can and then worry about PK and getting good gear. However, I found the experience of being at 50 very difficult. Most pinns know where the best gear is and can easly get it.

Recently I've got a pinned Feral ranger and am having a hell of a time PKing anything. So I ask: When and as what class is it best to get PK skills? Does it make sense to stop at, say, lvl 30 and Pk a bit before moving on. Is this considered bad Pk? Are there some classes where this is a bad idea?

When to learn to PK: 50. It's the truth. Before 50, all you are doing is acquiring gear, training, and testing skills.

What class to learn to PK with: Anything but healer and bard. It doesn't matter. If the IMPs put out that faerie zerkers were the most powerful combo in the game, but you hated playing them, you still wouldn't be able to PK. Find a race/class/align/ethos/religion/RP combo that you like. If you like it, you will put in the time to train it, rank it, equip it, cabal it, and kill with it. If you like it, they will die.

How to learn to PK: Get to 50. Turn on logging. Attack X. Die. Turn off logging. Log off. Read log. Back in the day you could watch pinned members of your cabal battle from the safety of the mid 30s. That doesn't seem to be an option anymore. But roam around and if you hear people fighting, go watch.

If you can learn from a death, it is worth it as a player. So, you lost some shinies. So what? You've become a little better. The classes you pin and get killed, the more classes you will know how to kill.

Clerics and rangers are both good to learn PK with, though I Personally would choose something without a vuln. to start. Humans, werebeasts, h-elves and halflings. As far as a time to do it, you can stop at 30, for clerics steel wall and earthquake can bring someone down with fair speed and the other spells you get help quite a bit. For rangers, you have a bit of versitility, if you are having trouble tracking people, choose a tracker, if you have trouble finishing someone off, try an archer. Both are good choices. However from personal experience, PKing at 30 just is not as exciting and fun as at 50. Not to mention the feeling of accomplishment you get from taking down someone with a bunch of rare things that you have never seen before, which rarely happens at 30. Once you start to get a grasp on pking rank a few times, and do a bit more to get the grasp of your new abilities. Once you hit 50 you should be able to hold your own with some success. Have to agree with Myrek. A lot of people will recommend allsorts of classes but I think you should roll a class that you will enjoy playing at fifty, that you won't get stressed out about after you lose a few fights. Play the race/class combo you want to, and log all your fights and review them. Hindsight FTW.

Regardless of what you roll, you are ultimately, going to learn things once you get to fifty.

I know it's been said before, but if you learn at 30, you still won't know how at 50. I can kill everybody and their dog 20-30, generally regardless of class, but at 50? That's a bit different.

Myrek's right, but I think a feral ranger is going to be very hard for a newer player to PK with. They go down like a dog if you don't know what you're doing. If you want to play a ranger I would suggest something with a bigger margin of error, that's more survivable, such as a halfling or ogre, or even an elf. Halfling with that dex you can usually get away. Ogre you can soak up a lot of damage and still live. Elf you have autosneak so you can get away a lot. Infravision also helps avoid unnecessary deaths. Feral, unless you really know eq or have a cabal a couple of bashes and you're dead. (If you really know what you're doing they may be the most powerful ranger--perhaps overpowered.)

Also you can take Sirant's advice and play a human cleric. I have to say they really are much easier to PK and survive with, plus they're good for exploring. You can can identify, make food and water, word, sanc, etc. etc.

The most crucial skill is learning from your deaths.

There is a reason for ALL deaths - and you are to be blamed for each and every death you take, if you dont blame yourself for dying and try to learn from the mistakes you make youre not going to get better.

When thats beeing said post some logs to imms and have them post it here and we can give advice.

Human DK, go for a couple of pk's every 5 - 10 levels right up from 20, will let you mess around with new skills/spells as you get them, take the adventurer perk and you can level up pretty quick also as a human.

This is bull**** I never never did that.I will tell you how I started,as a noob I was attacking people all the time,even if I didn't know what the **** I am doing.You must not be afraid of death.It all comes with the gaming expirience,it never comes with logs and other ****y things.After four years of Pk'ing it would be like reflex.I am not superior in Pk but I know some basics that works for more than 50% of the players.Try to Pk all the time,with every char,try to Pk even groups.

Nomak, if you read Myrek's post, you'll find that what Myrek is saying to do is almost exactly what you're saying - to go attack people, not fear death, except Myrek makes the point of logging all PKs to learn something.

If you're just attacking people all the time without knowing what you're doing, and you're not bothering to analyze what you're doing, what's working, what's not working and so on, you're going to learn a lot slower.

You will know what you are doing when you get your *** kicked many times:) The goal is to understand what every skill does and his use.With my first pinnacled cabaled character I didn't know what trip does :)But I remember the time when I fought Resuvan and one super cool nexus shaman.They both tried to gang me and I left both of them at awful.But then they healed up returned and killed me :PYou must understand the skills and their use,for example you are fighting invoker and warrior and you are a dark knight.Silence the invoker dirt and disarm the warrior and make them fear you,even if you cannot kill them they will fear you because you had the courage to attack a group.And be sure that noone will attack you first

Not if you're not taking the time to look at why you're getting slaughtered you won't learn much. I'm still learning myself, and I log most PKs I can. Sometimes I know mid-fight if I've done/doing something wrong, but sometimes I'll get killed and after looking back on the log, I'll be thinking "Urgh! Where were my mal saves!" or "Why didn't I chase there!" or whatever.

I know what you're saying, and the game experience is very valuable, but reading logs of yourself and other players can still be invaluable in helping. If you know what you did wrong one time, you can correct it, and try again, see what happens. If you just play and fight without really taking the time to think about what you're doing I think you'd learn a lot slower.

Again, don't want to sound like I'm a master on the subject because I'm still learning the ropes myself.

Yes man I understand you,no problem :)I respect your oppinion but I never used logs or something like that.I don't have the time.I remember once when I was on with my first character (level 15 ogre berserker) and two more people around 20th trying to take down Mahn-Tor
