Why is it when I approach my victem and try to pry something it says I need to approach them?

I've had that problem also, you approach them and then it says you need to again. I think it's a glitch.
I've seen it before too, though I don't know what causes it.

... It happens, only on mobs that I have seen, when you approach a mob, then try to approach a different mob but of the same name/type.
Example, two fire giant laborers in a room, blackjack them, approach the first, then try the second.

Hmmm. I've seen it in Emerald Forest alot with rangers trying to steal those damned bows and only one of them in the room. Haven't ever experienced it with pc's that I can think of.
I think it happened to me vs another player when I approached, pried something, then another person in range came in so i left the room and came back hidden, turned out they were not a threat, so I approached again and I got that message.
I never thought it was a bug, I just figured if you approach someone then stop you cannot re-approach for a tick or two. Though I can see with mobs of the same name how that might get buggy.

Dude, you get pry at 21, just kill the trolls.
Some thieves I've seen never kill if they can steal it. I've seen lvl 50's pry teeth necklaces. 
It can happen on anything if you approach them then walk away and try to approach again. It happens ALMOST every time... the rangers in Emerald I know of one ranger and one lady ranger that do it every time... just go blackjack something near by, (not with the same name) and then re-approach, works like a charm.

Why not? It's fun being annoying! (Though I usually try for something that's a little more worthwhile than just teeth necklaces, but if you need them and the opportunity is there...)

I think they mean stealing them from the mob that holds them. I too have seen that. It's as if they get into the robber's mind frame.
