I like helping them out and all, but do they really have to TALK like newbies? I mean, when I was a newbie, I didn't use acronyms or slang or any of that junk. It makes me want to, I dunno, groan loudly. I know it's not really their fault, but...groan
Newbs
I normaly just say what every time they say somthing ooc, they get the hint pretty fast.
If they repeatedly keep it up, pray for an IMM to handle it. Otherwise, gentle yet firm instruction will get them on track like UB said. Help them along.
I usually will just give them weird looks, say things like "Strange way of talking you have..."
I will say I think they are posessed, and I can't help people who can't overcome the demons within them.
They usually stop pretty fast.
em hands newbie a scroll titled 'help ooc'
That usually works, unless they go looking for the scroll in the inventory?
I tell them to search the divine scrolls for that riding 'help ooc' or smething.
My favorite is to just laugh at thier "Speech problem" autofollow them (you have more movement then they do) and just keep laughing and laughing.
Then RP with the citizens to laugh too. (fun with bard because of ventriloquist)
Hey, I did stupid things like that as a newbie. Be nice, or if it's really more than you can handle (because sometimes newbies really are, as a player) do what Chayesh said and pass them off to an imm.

Actually, it IS their fault for using acronyms and/or slang. They're perfectly capable of typing out the entire word to the best of their spelling ability. Anyone who doesn't is either lazy or stupid. I like to think the former. Correction. Ignorant, not stupid. Ignorance is curable, stupidity is forever.
With that said, for me as well. 'Scrolls of ooc/roleplay/etc.' Though I have had those to look in their inventory when I've emoted giving them a scroll.
On a good note though, I've helped about a half dozen completely green newbies since rolling my latest char. Good to see that we do have fresh blood after all; nice after that long gap where I didn't see a single one.
Hi, I've been plaing for about three months now and have become quite a decent player if I may say so myself. Noobies can't help it when they've just gotten into the game and are still learning what the heck to do, but I learned quick.
I never did anything like that as a newb. Melee brought me into it and told me all the rules. We rolled minotuars together, then storm giants. Haven't really played either since though...
I rolled a ninja first charater and learned life in the lands the real hard way...I got raped up and down. It was still fun learning the rules but you'd think the lands would have been more welcoming to a noobie. I guess you learn life the hard way and get your revenge later.
I think thats the way I looked at it. I'd get destroyed as I approached level 30, but I just looked forward to the day when I could return the favor, and I was a real *** about it. Played a ninja, got up to 30ish, mastered strangle and defenses, then snuck around, strangling, dusting and chasing everyone around. Was the only time I was forced to rank up and not pk anymore. I am rather fond of my super newb days back in 1.0.
