Hornecka vs Kotrag!
Learned one time from fighting Kotrag. If you Do..... just leave it all out on the field. Getting him past quite a few is a win for me.

Hah, yeah, I remember the time I got Thulgan to pretty hurt...way more impressive than any of my wins. I was actually really happy because I got to briefly imagine that there was a chance I would one day kill Thulgan. That feeling is worth more than full adeptus.
You also have to realize that despite the fact that he can hide and travel through a good portion of the Ford without being seen, he's also a part of Cabal meant to be hard to track and see whether that's coming or going. You sleeping and his subsequent attack may have seemed fast, but in 2-3 seconds it's impossible to move from the entrance to the Ford to the Cove. Unless he was connected directly into the game and 0 lag of any kind. It's more plausible that he was either hidden or something else from sight and you just didn't catch it at that moment because you were anticipating being able to get a tick of sleep in without repercussions. Having fought him before and called him out because I was bountied and knew he'd come for me, he didn't move all that quickly through the area at all. He was incredibly fast, I'll give him that, but it took him a good 15-20 seconds before he got to me. I don't know who plays him, but I'd say he's pretty skilled. You can't completely rely on just one weapon type to win your fight though. An Axe may be what you specialize in, but you shouldn't make it your go to weapon for him. I've learned to avoid him at all costs if I'm bountied, and that includes logging off. I'd rather not play the game and live than go in knowing I'll die. I've held my own against him once decently well, and nailed him hard with a few good shots, but that's about where it left off.
If you're intent on specifically fighting him, I'd say try and get your hands on some fiery weapons. You're more limited than a Warrior, but don't think the perk to high hit/dam will win you that fight. Your one attack hit for a decent amount of damage through protections he has. You spent a portion of the fight completely vulnerable and it shows. The stance was essentially a bit too little too late. Always stance if he lands the first hit. It would've been better than the dirt. It's a painful log to look at because I've seen what he can do. For the future though I'd keep my eyes open longer if you're going to call him out or have a bounty. Just because you don't see him on 'where' doesn't mean he's not there. Assume he's always nearby and watching. As far as the bardiche goes though, don't bank on it. There's two of them, and I doubt you'll get your hands on it anytime soon unless you decide to go the route of bountying the people who do have it. Don't be discouraged or feel that the class is overpowered, the player has overcome a few tweaks already that have weakened him and it really has proven that he's more skilled than some may have thought.
Are you trusted? I bet a solar mace Armageddon smash would feel nice... 😛
He's at Veteran still. He used to be Trusted though before his Outcast and demotion. Solar mace typically isn't ever in though when you have 2+ Fire Giants at 50 that are active. They seem to love the hell out of it, and I snagged one a few weeks back, but chose other more important weapons over it in the end.
I don't think there is anyway H. could be expected to land a kill on Kotrag. If K. begins to lose he can just push any direction he wants, success or fail, then hide.

You mean there's no way for a melee to kill a rogue?
Really?
I could think of a few ways :P

If he were Trusted, which he was at one point, it's not really that hard..
I'd double grip the solar mace and open with a charge. Execute for the armageddon smash then follow up with a dirt kick if it didn't proc from Gladiator skills. Kotrag would flee at this point and knowing the player, he would vanish and run away, but if he didn't I'd chase with charge, then rage/bodyslam while he is getting eaten alive by a fiery weapon he doesn't know and armageddon smash is doing massive damage plus stunning him.
