A necromancer could do something similar if they land sleep too.

This was what got you killed.

You were blind & without Sanctuary. The first rule of PK is to always fight with sanctuary. Since you are blind, you can't get sanctuary without curing the blindness, so your first move should be flee, move 4-5 rooms, quaff gyvel.

Not to say that you opening with dirt was bad, for a meele point of view it's fine. You dirted at the start of tick so you should have ~30 seconds of him blind so you can flee and cure the blindness and prepare.

But ... that miss killed you.

Fleeing and quaffing might also not have worked. Depending on your blind/room knowledge, and luck with the gyvels.

The absolutely best thing to do in that case is to: sheath your weapon in combat, hold the gyvel and quaff it. Then smoke the herb of sanctuary or eat a pill. Never have less than 4 gyvels on your inventory, and a dozen in the backpack.

I always go WTF everytime I see that guy with the trigger that makes him hold a gyvel the moment something kicks dirt to his eyes, but he has a point. You as a giant should have about 1/3 chance of fumbling the combat quaff, but it's worth it.

Listen to them about the brews. Brews will give you an edge vs Vix. He will need to dispel you and that his harder for him than to make you sleep. BUT brews will not save you, if you like Vix pointed you keep forgeting to take your pill. Just kill something for gold and you should be able to buy 20 pills. That's 20x20x0.5 = 100 min or almost two hours of detect invisibility. And learn the discipline of WHERE.

WHERE, move move move, WHERE move move move WHERE, move move move WHERE.

Try also to get 40 mentals saves if you are fighting him a lot. It's not enough but with the brews it should prevent ... just trust me, will make your life easier. Get the Lloth necklaces for ~10 mental saves from xymeria.

Now Offense. I will not fool you, your mental vulnerability sucks vs a PSI. You are going to take lots of damage, but 300 is what you can expect most in the worst case situation, that is, you have 4 rounds to kill him in the worst case, and probably 10 with sanctuary and protection and some saves.

What you need to do is deal damage. Metric tons of it. And fast. Thankfully Illithiads pay for their cone, leach and shock with a vuln. Illithiads are vulnerable to Light. What you need to do is to dual wield two light damage weapons.

The best is the 1h sword lightbring, but it's elf only so it's out for you.

Second comes the spear of imbalance. Iron makes no-no for elves, and you can find it in the bathhouse.

Third comes the Power staff in the Tainted Valley, you can request it from arcturos. Even with pugil, this might not work very well, just test it.

Fourth is the rod of stars, ask in game.

The ideal scenario is the spear + the rod in the off hand. You might be able to put him into a run but he will be pretty hard to kill.

Theres a completely free source of detect invis from the revamped elemental canyon, the raspberries.

Just collect them once and wait for a respawn and you should have enough for quite a while.

Or just get your hands on that belt that is spellforged with detect invis.

Your mistakes were as already mentioned by others, again listed above.

When you get annihilated you ONLY ever stay in pk if the other guy is almost dead and you can take that annihilate. 

Else you flee and either quaff a green potion (good chance to survive that as a warrior with still high hp and you can see it blind) or you at the very least cure the blind and sanc up.

I can kind of see why you might would dirt kick if you had an escape plan (so he couldn't see which way you ran).. but I'm assuming you didn't have any gyvel potions or an escape plan, and panicked and kicked dirt instead of fleeing :P We've all been there.

I am going to give you the most honest advice that I think I can.

You are going to need to con die a character in order to fully learn, then con die another.  This game can be very difficult when you just don't know what your doing.  I still get facerolled all the time, and I have been playing for sometime.  I am no vet.

You started the fight without Sanctuary, this is a no no.  Kick dirt flee and run.  Since your dirt missed, you still should have fled and tried to cure that blindness.  As was mentioned, you panicked.  I am sure your fingers were shaking.  We have all been there.

You are going to die.  You are going to want to smash your computer.  Just do your best to try and remember the little things.  Try to continue to improve each battle.  Most of this game is situational.  Once you were put to sleep, I dont think I would have even kicked dirt when I woke.  I would have tried to flee as far as I could have trying to remember which room I was in when I slept.  Putting EXITS on your prompt is nice.  You are asleep you can look back to see which directions you could possibly flee in and then just spam a direction until you hit a marker you know.

I am going to be honest, even if you did everything right, I am almost sure that you would have still perished.  My suggestion for newer players is to have a few teleport pills on hand for emergencies.  Also alias to eat them.  Alias for everything.  They are your friend.

Ideal situation.  He puts you to sleep.  You wake up, flee quaff a gyvel and run a little further.  Give yourself an aura.  Run to get yourself to 100 percent ready. Brews for the next encounter.

If he is still just eating you for breakfast, can't escape and feel like you are going to die, pop that teleport pill and hope you land somewhere good.  Then think about how you want the next encounter and do your best to make it on your terms.

If I were you forget the metal saves, no point against him, just beef up your Hit/Dam. Your just going to need a lot of resources to stay ahead of the game. 

1.) Always have brews (ideally set some macro/aliases for drinking them and sacing them) You WILL be dispelled, once that happens drink another one right away. 

2.) Start farming black leaves or pills like Maya said (Same thing with brews, the moment you are dispelled, make sure you consume the pill or leaves after drinking the brew)

3.) Refresh your invis all the same.

4.) Make sure you have gyvels in order to follow steps 1 to 3 :)

Their tactics are going to be the same. Dispel, flee, invis, Sleep, MINDBLAST your face off. They might mix it up a bit, but that's the bulk of it. If they are out damaging you then there will be no need for them to flee, just smash your face off like they did above. I'm not sure which PSI path it is, maybe illusion, however, make sure your not flying or your really in for a ride. 

Time your dirt kicks well, try to do it the second you eat a MindBlast, this will help avoid you dirt kicking, then getting dispelled and eating an unsanced mind blast. You also need to work on your Health/Damage IQ, this will take time but make the difference in all your fights. In very simple terms, you need to evaluate how much damage am I taking vs delivering. At this current rate will I win this fight? If not you flee and reorganize. Stick and move tactics.

OK OK I will bite.  Why would you suggest no focus on  mental saves assuming I am illusion?

I don't think we can discuss the paths in detail (even if some people are guessing wrong), but I think Sarcon's logic is that mental saves are a waste on a mental vuln race since the PSI spells will probably land anyway. His logic of going for +hit +dam gives the giant a chance to put a hurt on the psi and possibly outdamage it.

One thing to note about fighting Psi's is their need to memorise spells, what this means is that much of the Psi arsenal is not unlimited. If they use what seem like path specific spells on you and you manage to resist or negate the assault, this is usually a good time to try and counter attack, not letting the Psi escape and memorise.

So you disagree with him, by nature of your comments.

Something is weird with Viruthx. I fought him the other day and would go to rest with him no where near me. I'd go to sleep to catch the tick and get hypnosised for 0 hours and it would blind me everytime for 8 hours. I'd wake and quaff a gyvel immediately with no one near me or even in nearby areas. I swear to god I started to think he was IMM poofing in the room when I slept. I was getting so damn mad.
