Zerks and Weapon Cleave

I believe that in today's game environment having any weapon be permanently destroyed doesn't feel great. There was a bit of discussion on discord regarding this.

As someone who played zerks and loves the class I think that the broken weapon status is fine, for fury as well. Fury will still have their perk of breaking burnproof weapons but no cleave should really conkill the weapon. I think that the 10k fix is more than fair.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts and, if applicable, why you would have a problem with removing the permanent destruction.

Full disclosure for your arguments:

A broken item can be repaired at the repair shop in Falen Dara.  Weapons (and I think shields) cost 10,000g and armor up to 100,000g to fully repair.

A destroyed item is gone forever.

Devastation berserkers

  • Break non-burnproof and non-owner only weapons and shields.
  • Burnproof and owner only weapons and shields are not affected.

Fury berserkers

  • Destroy non-burnproof and non-owner only weapons and shields while raged.
  • Break burnproof and owner only weapons and shields while raged.
  • If not raged, see Devastation berserkers.
  • This path is one of a very small group that can permanently destroy an item.  There are two other ways I can think of that your opponent can permanently destroy a non-burnproof or non-owner only weapon or shield.

Anger berserkers

  • See Devastation berserkers.

You can purchase a temporary burnproof on weapons and shields from any cabal for twice the item level.  For example, a level 30 item will cost 60 CP to burnproof.  This lasts 144 ticks or about 72 real-time minutes.

You can purchase a temporary owner only on weapons and shields from any cabal for twice the item level.  For example, a level 30 item will cost 60 CP to burnproof.  This lasts 480 ticks or about 4 real-time hours.

You could use RP to purchase the above at the Bazaar for the level of the item for owner only and a quarter of the level for burnproof.  For a level 40 item, this would be 40 RP for owner only and 10 RP for burnproof.

Personal note: I'm wanting to look over RP costs for the various things you can purchase with them, so prices may or may not change in the future, but I'd like to see some of these go down.  No guarantees, however.

This is great information. I guess what I'm advocating for the the idea that broken is better than permanently destroyed. To me it feels like a punishment on real life time for permanently destroyed and not a major effect on a fight. Looking at it objectively of course the character could go and get another one, but the player has to take their time that could instead be better used doing something fun. It's a major part of zerk combat and is giving people a chore as a main part of a class fun?

TL;DR I guess I'm pro time in game being fun and anti chore.

A few years ago fury zerks could cleave burnproof weapons with a single handed weapon while not even raged. No weapons were safe. When the changes came in to make it so they need both of those requirements met it became a lot more manageable. Either have some disposable weapons on tap to be able to switch quickly or leave when he rages.

If he's rage/weaponcleave he's not rage/bodyslam.

Updated my post above.  I forgot some information there, thanks for the reminder, @Xultantris.

You can still cleave with a 1h weapon as a fury zerk and break/destroy weapons.  Unless you're a minotaur, you have to use a 1h weapon to cleave daggers.

While rage is required to break burnproof and destroy non-burnproof, wielding a 2h isn't.
