The Midden Heap

Seems to me that one or more players around here become overly frustrated at one situation or another each and every week. Its always the same, only the names get changed. This happened, that didn't happen, I don't care I am taking my ball and going home. Its always exasterbated by a denial/farewell thread that sooner or later gets someone a short vacation regardless if they were really intending to leave or not. Because we have moderators who truly intend to provide the best atmosphere the rest of us, we often do not get to read what is written in these posts. It doesn't matter. What do you do Aabahran? You got the anger out, you posted for denial, you said you were leaving, you posted your hatred for the blah, blah blah. But then your not mad anymore. You got it out of your system. Suddenly we see your "should be denied" character walking around the realms, you havent left, and you no longer seem angry. Someone thinks you must have gotten what you wanted. They get mad and post a denial/ I quit thread. And the cycle turns. And Turns.

I would like to offer a way to avoid this if I may. I think we should have a sticky thread inside of shout outs called "The Midden Heap". Shout Outs are likely to be friendly and/or respectful when read. Someone writing your name in the "Midden Heap" is less likely to be so. It would allow frustrated players a forum to vent their troubles for other concerned players to read. I know we have the prayer room, but this does not help us as players to understand the frustrations of our fellow players. Its just a thought, I hope you all may likewise see the need for this.

Do you mean to create a flame thread where players can knock at other players?

How doesn't the prayer forum help you as a player? That is one of the main purposes of it.

How doesn't the prayer forum help you as a player? That is one of the main purposes of it. Answer 1, I do not think this thread should be above or beyond the rules of the Forum itself. I mean only to create a place for people to post their frustrations in a way that does not come across as negative to any new visitors in the general forum.

Answe 2, Indeed, The forum helps me as a player, as I read my post I realized it needed edited there.

I suggested, solely on prayer, an idea similar to this. Even having posted it as my own idea before, I am still not sure how I feel about it.

I just think it will create more negativity. People love ranting most when they have an audience...

I think perhaps a better approach would be to try and think of some rp way to deal with your given frustration. Perhaps create elaborations of their sermon like speeches or views on life, death, combat, whatever it may be.

I think the more we promote non-rp ways to interact with our characters, we begin to lose touch with the purpose in their creation. If the attack is unwarranted in your eyes, then the character feels the same, think how they would react and do so.

would just turn into a flame pit.

I think how I reacted has taught us that venting OOCly is a horrible idea. Most likely even the worst idea that anyone can think up.

Besides sounding sorry for yourself we don't need more reasons to hate one another. LoL

Noted.

I will keep thinking. >I< am not now nor have I ever been frustrated with things that happen in game. >>I<< HAVE, however, read countless denial/leaving threads that get moderated quickly and leave me wondering what player X was having an issue with. Over the years I have watched a few very good players stand by their denial/leaving thread, and we have lost them from our family, and I as your merciful father have no Idea why. And THAT is the issue, and THAT is what I shall consider at length until I can fathom a worthwhile solution. Maybe its like Malch said "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Thank your lucky shooting stars that I tarnish.

Thanks for your comments and time everyone.

It's when we forget that this is JUST a game and become almost overly connect to our characters that we take PKing as personal attacks. We become offended when we can't or are unable to defend ourselves properly and it leaves us feeling vulnerable. So, we come here to vent or complain hoping to get someone to feel sorry for us.

But it goes further than just PK, sometimes we really feel we need that piece of EQ, or we spend countless hours on a character to get a certain class or race just to have it denied with a "try again" response from an Immortal. That also makes us feel like we just "waisted our time".

It all boils down too... we put so much into our character without making any sort of barrier, and when we face failure or a seemingly impossible resistance we feel that the game and or the playerbase sucks. When in actuality... it's our own fault for not giving ourselves a barrier to protect ourselves from failure.

No one likes to be told no, and no one likes to fall.
