PG-13 Rule

I think it's safe to say we're all adults now, and not that I want to get incredibly raunchy but it adds flavor to the story when character can cuss up a storm, get naked and throw a wild party.

No just kidding, but the PG-13 rules is incredibly restricting and it takes away from the story over all.

Perhaps lift the rating up a little?

Perhaps maybe to... Mature (18+)?

I mean I don't want to walk in on any sex scenes or have someone talk so much garbage to me that I begin to feel insulted, but the story of FL could be more enhanced if it was geared more towards it's players. Which are adult men...

Sexual relations doesn't enhance the RP world in my opinion. Especially the acting out of it, which is pretty sad. We already have marriages and girlfriends and all that other crap, oh, and polygamy. I think we're okay at this point.

Cursing, however.. I've seen people do it and do it well. Dwarves in particular won't get bitch slapped around for using bad language (primarily ARSE or DAMNIT) You could always make up your own swearing, too. Like, "son of a bryntryst." or something similar, and still have the same, desired effect.

PG-13 looks down on swearing, and intense graphic images.

And... some of the descriptions of things have skirted that rating VERY closely.

I don't want more sex, I want a more graphic environment.

The MUD gets placed on a list of MUDs on the internet. Imagine some underage kid came on. Then the audience wouldn't be 18+ anymore. I've known a few teens that have played this game before, some probably still do. I mean, sure, it's just text and all, but that starts stepping on lines that are best left untouched. Just my opinion.

I pretty much agree with you, though I know when I played a long time ago a 12yr old was playing and got busted doing some very adult stuff, its still gonna happen regardless of it still being pg-13 or not.

I believe the original intent with this rule was Virigoth when he was running things did not want some parent getting on here or the game and ripping into the IMM's because her kid just mud sexed with some 40 yr old fat guy with a mullet. You can put an age restriction on here all ya want, but I will say young kids would just ignore it and get on anyways.

Now on the flip side of things, I believe the P-Base has grown up considerably and if there was an age restriction on here saying 18+ then if a teen did get on here the IMM's are no longer liable and really cant be held accountable. Porn sites while this I am sure is not what you meant by 18+ do the same thing so... Up to the big guys. I am for the age 18 + restriction but wont ruin my day if it doesnt happen.

Crypticant/Shadowspawn actually built a variety of -adult only- emotes into the system, as well as an interactive prostitution AI for the girl in Gal Ranidon. They are probably still in the code but turned off.

I would be in favor of suspending sex commands when either character is injured, bloodied, etc, to keep the sex and violence separate. Otherwise, have at it!

That AUTOMATICALLY saves the entire site and MUD from any trouble of parents freaking out and it turns back to the child.

I still say we're adult, the site is adult. You put PG-13 is only putting up the illusion that this place is safe for kids. That mullet man is going to flirt with 13 year old Johny and rock his world either way.

If at least you put M 18+ the site cant be blamed for welcoming children into a dangerous environment.

PG-13 is a joke, and is MORE dangerous for this site, and OUR MUD.

I can tell you for certain that there has been atleast one minor playing recently. My son. He has been trying to convince several of his friends to play. Which means there could be more. My son is 16 and impressionable, however, network television pushes the pg13 rule a heck of a lot harder than WE would/could. Knowing what children already have access to, I can not say I would be bothered if the rating was changed. I do wonder, and maybe one of you computer gurus could tell me, would changing the rating cause the parental controls in teenager's computers keep them from joining us if we changed the rating? Blocking teenagers would have kept many of you away when you started, yes we are all older now, but how old were you when you found FL? When your playtime was unlimited, and your workload minimal. Just a couple of cents, mine I guess.

I think it can be done tastefully, to raise it to 18+. Saying nudity is bad is a social stigma entrenched by morals, not ethics. The idea of protecting others before enjoying ourselves is also dripping with morals. We are intelligent people. We enjoy escapism, getting into FL and away from life, living as another character.

I want my son playing when he gets a few years older and though a curse word or two I can handle but full on raunch I'm fairly certain id pull him off. We are primarily an adult group of players but I just wince at the thought of some child coming on the game and being offended....but to each their own I have a bleeding heart for children, new players. Etc.

That said, often times we aren't too quick to jump on people as long as they aren't blatantly crossing the line and being offensive. I've seen and played characters who drop a few choice words every now and then, but keep away from the obviously offensive ones.

As for the other "mature content" it's often much more appealing to be creatively suggestive than to be outright in your face lewd.

As for the rating, I'm generally not one for restricting RP (considering my PK sucks so hard RP is my only option) but I don't think there is much of a need to raise the age cap.

In my opinion, it's not much of an issue of protecting ourselves. Most young children play WoW where there are amazonian blue women in loinclothes impaling each other with spears. This means that a.) they're not even playing muds and b.) if they do, they've seen it all before unless our players cross the line (which invariably someone will, testing boundaries is human nature).

The more important question is how much would this affect your ability to play and enjoy the game? I don't see it as having much of an impact on playability, but having a potentially large impact on our reputation and putting us at risk for no reason.
