Master work lets a trade go past rank 80. It is not in the game yet. This page is an early look, and the details may change before it opens. See help:MASTER WORK and help:MASTER TOOLS for the full rules.

## Rank past 80

Ordinary work raises your rank as far as 80. Smiths, jewelers and fletchers can attune to raise that limit one rank at a time, up to 85. Once master work takes you past your limit, you can no longer attune, so attune first. Above your limit, only master work raises your rank, up to 100.

The first time you do a master work, you gain one full rank. Each time you repeat it, you gain a quarter rank, but only once every 20 hours. Every work opens at rank 80, 85, 90 or 95, and it gives rank until you are ten ranks past that point. A work that opens at 85 stops giving rank at 95. To go higher, find new works.

## Works

These are the crafters' works so far. Miners, woodcutters, herbalists and fishers earn rank at master's places instead, and butchers earn it from master's cuts.

{cols: 20% 80%}
| Trade | Works |
| :--- | :--- |
| Blacksmithing | Every pattern in tier 6 metal, such as a tier 6 sword. Every master tool, the tempering kit, and a smelt of each tier 6 metal. |
| Leatherworking | Every pattern in dragon hide, such as a dragon hide jerkin. |
| Tailoring | Every pattern in starweave, such as a starweave robe. |
| Fletching | Every pattern in wyrmwood, such as a wyrmwood bow. The master's rod and the coil of master's line. |
| Jewelcrafting | Cutting each tier 6 stone, and setting each tier 6 stone. |
| Alchemy | A bottle of each tier 6 herb, and a draught made from a hydra's heart. |
| Enchanting | Every glyph in legendary dust, plus a scroll in legendary dust, a scroll in kraken ink and a scroll in squid ink. |
| Cooking | A dish of rainbow trout, a dish of kraken flesh, a dish of squid flesh, and a dish of each tier 6 herb. |

Legendary dust comes from a legendary stone of quality 90 or higher. A godforged blade does not count as a work.

## Pages and scraps

Some bosses in end game areas drop a master's page, or a scrap of one, when killed. After a boss drops one, it drops nothing for 6 hours. All players share this timer. Once master work opens, the [Item Database](/items) will show where each page, scrap and cut comes from.

To study a page, read it. You need rank 80 or higher in its trade. The page burns, but you keep the works it teaches. Examine a page to see its trade and rank. So far, three pages teach works. These are the two smith plans for master tools and the fletcher's plans for the master's rod.

Four scraps of the same trade and rank combine into a page you do not know yet. Carry all four in your inventory, not in a bag, and type `read scraps <trade>`. If you already know every page of that trade at that rank, you get a page of the next rank instead.

Fully exploring an end game area also gives you a scrap, once per character for each area. If you have already fully explored an end game area, you get its scrap the first time you log in after master work opens.

## Master tools

Master work needs a master tool with edge left on it. A smith of rank 80 who has studied the plans can forge master tools with any hammer. A fletcher of rank 80 who has studied the plans for the master's rod can make one with any knife.

{cols: 40% 60%}
| Trade | Master tool |
| :--- | :--- |
| Mining | pick or hammer |
| Woodcutting | axe |
| Herbalism | sickle |
| Fishing | master's rod |
| Butchery, fletching and cooking | knife |
| Blacksmithing | hammer or tongs |
| Leatherworking and tailoring | needle |
| Jewelcrafting | chisel |
| Alchemy | alembic |
| Enchanting | burin |

Each master work that gives you rank uses one point of edge. So does each material from a master's place, each master's catch and each master's cut. From rank 95, each use has a 50 percent chance to cost no edge. When the edge runs out, the tool still does ordinary work, but not master work.

A smith's tempering kit restores edge to a master tool. A fletcher's coil of master's line restores edge to a master's rod. Anyone can use either one. Carry the tool and the kit or coil in your inventory, not in your hands, and type `repair <tool>`.

## Master's places

Gatherers do master work at master's places in end game areas. Miners mine deep seams and prospect deep pockets. Woodcutters chop or fell old growth. Herbalists forage wild gardens for tier 6 herbs and for starweave, the tier 6 cloth. Fishers fish deep water for a master's catch, such as a rainbow trout.

All the master's places of one kind in one area form a ground. For example, the deep seams in one area are one ground. Your first material from each ground gives you one full rank. Grounds open at rank 80 or 85.

A master's place runs dry after a few pulls or casts, and new ones appear over time. Survey does not show them, so you must find them yourself. At deep water, hold the master's rod and do not leave until you land the fish, or you lose it.

## Master's cuts

Some bosses carry a master's cut, such as a hydra's heart. Butcher the corpse with a master's knife to take it. If a boss carries more than one cut, type `butcher <corpse> <cut>` to choose. If you do not choose, you always get the same one.

A cut does not always come away whole, but you fail less often at higher ranks. Each boss gives up a cut at most once every 6 hours, and all players share this timer. A failed cut does not start the timer. Your first cut from each boss gives you one full rank.

## Limits

You can do master work in two trades at most. A druid's cooking and a ranger's butchery count toward those two if you do master work in them. In each trade, at most three new works can give you rank in any 24 hours.

## Your pages and works

Type `profession <trade>` to see your pages and works in that trade. It also lists the pages, works and grounds you have yet to find.

## More at higher ranks

At rank 82, gatherers can survey an area for the nearest veins, deposits, trees, plants, water or creatures of their trade. At rank 88, woodcutters can tap trees for resin, and fishers can bait their hooks. Butchers of rank 88 also take the horn or tusk from beasts that have one. Herbalists of rank 88 find moonlit herbs when they forage outdoors at night under a full moon.
