How come protective shield can stop you from getting slammed into by a giant, getting decked in the face and dispelled, but can't stop you from getting hit in the head with a sack?
Protective shield and blackjack.
Mainly because it would make c/cs essentially immune to rogues unless they walked into a specific trap.
How can a condom prevent you from getting aids, the Hep-C, Gonorrhea, but not Herpes?

Oh, the answer is, "it depends on what it covers."

Lol? They would hardly be immune, would just have to change tactics a bit god forbid.
Remember that old movies "Dune".
Remember when Paul and Gurney are training before going to Arakkis ?
"You are an apt pupil, none better, but I've warned you that not even in play do you let a man inside your guard with death in his hand."
"I guess I'm not in the modd for it today," Paul said.
"Mood?" Halleck's voice betrayed his outrage even through the shield's filtering. "What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises - no matter the mood! Mood's a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It's not for fighting."
"I'm sorry, Gurney."
"You're not sorry enough!"
And they precede to duel with Shields and Knives.
Think of protective shield like that.
A somewhat slow attack can pass, but once you are inside the shield you can just hit them by surprise on the back of the head.
You always redeem yourself. And I hate you a little for that. Mya, I can't quit you.

We all know you like getting hit in the face with sacks, don't try to deny it.

I haven't laughed as hard as I did when I read this in awhile.

Thieves are supposed to essentially be mage bane. Just poison yourself and harden up. ![]()
You seem to be fond of that saying.
I'm just trying to look at it from like... as realistically as you can look at a text-based fantasy rpg.
I'm a mage. I have worked hard on my protective shield spell to protect me from bashers and haymakers and chakeras. And its like... If I got knocked out by some idiot with a sack full of bricks or whatever, I'd be pissed.

What is this site you keep refering to Mya?
http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm
It's a site i found when i was playing Never Winter Nights.
It's about the d20 "pen and paper" game system, that was made "Open Source" "FreeWare" by the Wizards of the Coast owners of the Dungeons and Dragons trademark.
Basically, is a reduced rule set for D&D based on 3.5 that any company can use to make games and release products. But they cannot make the character creation tutorials, which can only be made by Wizards of the Coast.
It's quite fun.
