Full Loot/Equipment Lists

Just an idea. Not meant to be a discussion on full loots, right, wrong, etc..., so please don't.

What if full loots were relegated to only being able to take rares/uniques, backpacks, and gold?

I've also seen muds that have lists of equipment and the areas they're found in. But instead of a full list, just list items that aren't rare/unique. This would really ramp up the desire for people to explore these areas. Plus they could come across some of the rare/unique items in their explorations.

Thoughts?

I like that idea (the EQ list one). I will put together a few non-rare resuit lists including where to get the items from, unless there are any objections from the Immortals? Sure some of the other folk more knoweldgable would be willing to do the same?

Still personally don't agree with the full-loot idea, IMO it's fine as it is but that's just my opinion.

I'd rather lose everything and keep my packs, heh. But that's just me.

Sure, but it can't hurt at all. There's a few pieces of non-rare EQ that aren't too shabby that people may not know about and it can give people ideas on quick suits to jump into straight after a loot - especially useful for newer players. It's not like we're giving away the blueprints to the construction of Adeptus or anything.

Also, I agree. Worst part for me about being full-looted is losing a pack full of scrolls, potions and whatnot.

I have an eq list of many, many, many rares (some of which most players will have never seen). Its taken me quite an amount of time to get this together - why should I hand it over to all the people who are too lazy to do the same?

Its not that hard to find out about eq - try playing a lvl 50 with the id spell (or even that has scrolls) and going on eq trips and NOT taking anything but the id's. You can learn a lot real fast.

I'm not trying to hand anything important out. I know a lot of you have these "equipment/identify lists", which I have never bothered to compile. But just a month ago, I found out about a non-rare I had never seen before. It wasn't even on a mob.

In the interest of keeping new players, in the spirit of promoting exploration, what's wrong with giving up a list of non-rare?

This game is based a great deal on equipment. Also, listing where some/most/all of the non-rare equipment is will make it that much easier for a newb to re-equip and let them know about some of the areas in a game. I know there's an area command. I also know we did/do things a lot differently.

Like I said, nobody's saying full IDs of rares and uniques. A list of non-rares (we're talking Transclucent Combat Lanterns, nice-looking rings and cloaks of dreamseeking not Adeptus IDs) could be useful and isn't compromising too much on what other people know. AFAIK posting info on common EQ is within the rules, but I'm not too sure.

Sirant posted a list of EQ that was non-rare a LONG time ago that gave the location of easy reequip armor for everyone after like level 30 or so. Then Viri posted a list of saves EQ for maladiction saves. I wouldn't see a problem to try and maybe get a basic list that can combine the two, IE: hitroll category; damroll category; saves. Mostly up to Imms on what you can do with it though.

You haven't noticed? Getting any flavor of information out of the pbase is like doing dental work on crocodile with a flamethrower strapped to its head. Yeah you might get something...but chances are you get flamed into BBQ then have the still smoldering chucks of your body consumed by coldblooded creatures that don't get a vote in elections for a reason...A reason which really needs to be expanded.

That's it, I now advocate the old school literacy tests at the polling places.

If a player is willing to create a list of non-rare items and post it on this forum, I guarantee that no action will be taken. I'll even sticky it.

I feel that many old school players need to wrap their heads around the fact that the attitude of doling out information grudgingly does jack all for growing the pbase. In general, I find arguments such as "I did it the hard way, why should they get it easier?" to be fundamentally self-serving as opposed to doing much to attract and retain more players to this MUD.

Man, I'm old school and I didn't even say anything on this issue. There is alot of information out there and different ways of getting it. Instead of making it seem like these people are keeping the playerbase down, you should focus on other issues such as actually playing the game or improving the website.

I think there can be a compromise here. Us old school players won't whine about the EQ list as long as the new school players don't whine about losing it all to us!

If you've already wrapped your head around the idea, then I applaud you. If you haven't, then not posting on this thread doesn't change the fact that you need to. I appreciate your undoubtedly well-intentioned concern regarding the focus of my energies. I focus on precisely what I am capable of focusing on, and if I knew html, the website would be one of the things I would be focusing on. As it is not, paying for the hosting of this game, moderating the forum and brainstorming some upcoming in-game changes are what I am focusing on.

I don't think you are 'keeping the playerbase down', because, amongst other things, quite a few of you aren't even regularly playing the game from what I can tell. To elaborate on my post, my issue is with a commonplace attitude that often indicates a devotion to keeping certain aspects of the game a certain way, not because it is good for the game or good for the growth of the MUD, but for one's self. I find such attitudes distressing, and the fact that the attitudes have the 'weight' of some of the longer-playing and well-respected members of the pbase behind them to be even more distressing.

I've put a list together of some stuff but need to log on when I get home from work just to verify some of it. I'll post it later.

If there can be somewhere to just copy + paste equipment lists, I've got identify files of tons of stuff. I'll just edit out the rares and send it somewhere.

NOT the actual identify file, corpsestomp. Just the equipment list and what area it comes from. Collaborate with Dey over PM on it.

I think anything like align restrictions should be left up to them to identify.
