Mounted combat.

Why Fire Giant Rangers would be better than Stone Giant Rangers:

25 strength vs 24 strength

Fire weapon bonus (fire arrows if archer, fire throwable if tracker)

Ambush with dual fire weapons + fire arrows = major pain

Resistance to the staple invoker ability that prevents ambush

Ability to kick evil cleric ***, whereas a stone giant will get their butt handed to them

Let me tell you, I would kill for a Fire Giant Ranger Reaver.

It would be nice, like forestwalk, to have elven horses sneak on forest.

After all elves are the forest people.

So 2 ideas brainstormed.

  • Big bat (something) extremely over priced mount with 100% sneak.

  • Forest sneak for forestwalk races with sneak (and mounted combat).

Witch means elves and perhaps rangers.

Withc reminds me, elves are one of the best rangers races, i dont know why people do not use them more...

Tell that to Anduo.

25 strength vs 24 strength

-- a little good, but not great

Fire weapon bonus (fire arrows if archer, fire throwable if tracker)

--fires don't get bonus from fire fired weapons..or from material/throw I'm guessing

Ambush with dual fire weapons + fire arrows = major pain

With what? Fiery daggers?

Resistance to the staple invoker ability that prevents ambush

Not a huge deal..invokers have ice storm

Ability to kick evil cleric ***, whereas a stone giant will get their butt handed to them

Unless they are fire giants...

Firebrand spear?

Hah. I hate to break it to you, but fiery daggers CERTAINLY are not the only fire weapon out there that a ranger could wield. I can think of a very strong one from a quest race area, a decent axe, a decent spear...

Resistance to the staple invoker ability that prevents ambush

I'm pretty sure that, even though a FG won't be hurt by it, he still would be drawn out of camouflage and into combat when running into an invoker's firestorm.

Ability to kick evil cleric ***, whereas a stone giant will get their butt handed to them

Wrong - its NOT a fire spell (like the invoker one). Next time you see it put on fiery daggers and see if you can actually deal any extra damage... Or normal damage...

Not only that, but firestorm is useful for it's blinding affect as much as it's damage.

Only when cast upon one's enemy though, not if someone runs into an already 'running' firestorm. As far as I can remember, that is. Been some time

Easy enough to have it up and recast for the blind.

I'm going to say what everyone always eventually says when a pali string comes up. Pali's don't need anything, a friend of mine has ran countless pali's at pinn it seems everytime i turn around he runs another one, he always does really good, hardly ever dies, and yes kills quite a few people. As I remember he was the one whom finally con-deathed a certain nexus annoyance who was always in the shadows, They are really effective and they are really effective not mounted as well. I don't recommend being not mounted against a warrior or bashing class but against a communer/caster? dismount, Keep Goliath fight around when they get low on HP then just type mount and charge to finish'em.

You know, I still can't help but chuckle a bit whenever I see someone refer to a paladin as a "Pali".

What can I say I'm lazy.

I would disagree, but I can't do that on the open forums.

And I was talking purely about damage. The damage done from firestorm is pretty significant for most races, which is a good reason why magic resist, and in this case fire resist races would be good from the start.

I would disagree, but I can't do that on the open forums.

Having taken many deaths as a result of said skill, and significantly seen differences with and without, I agree with Evangelion. I can't go into much further detail, but one of the Imms who was snooping on a battle of mine even mentioned how I should have picked a different "skill" to use against a fire-wielder as opposed to what I selected.
