Exorcism

Demons are humans posessed by Demons...which healers aren't allowed to touch now, which personally I think is against most Healer Rp I have ever known...

I think it is the job and RESPONSIBILITY of a healer to attempt to SAVE the person who has been possessed, by any means necessary. If it comes to killing the vessel to save the soul, so be it.

But, apparently, to many people don't think this way.

So I suggest a new level 50 spell: EXORCISM.

When exorcism is cast upon a demon, it an have a number of affects.

First, it can turn back on the healer if failed...the demon an resist the exorcism and infringe upon the healer's holiness, causing them to become blasphemed.

Second, it can harm the demon greatly, causing it to use the vessel it is within as a shield against it...harming that shield(the player) badly.

Third, it can have no affect at all. This would lag the healer, while not lagging the demon.

Fourth, it can banish the demon from its vessel. When this is done, the demon loses all of its demonic power...and ceases to be a true demon. It is blasphemed and is no longer able commune spells, along with being weakened because the lack of that lifeforce is a lack of power.

Kind of like this.

Demon Banishment for 100 hours.

Strength -10

Mana -100

HP -(I don't know demons well, but make the difference between demon HP and Human HP)

Blasphemy

Healers aren't allowed to kill demons, but they are allowed to battle them.

When an exorcism is performed on an opponent who is stunned or has very little HP, it fails less than when performed on a more healthy opponent.

I know people will say its overpowered, but I think the only time it should have a GOOD chance of landing is when the healer could land a killing blow soon.

Healer RP has been anti-undead ONLY since before Viri left. The helpfile is unchanged, as is our policy regarding aggressive healers. In fact, I distinctly remember Viri explaining to everyone that demons are not undead to dispel this exact train of thought.

Also, Demons must be channeled into a willing host, as par the helpfile says. That means that the person who is a demon can't really be 'saved', because he is already, since before the change, a willing part of the process.

But I do like the general concept. Although the penalties for bein exorcised seem a little harsh at the extreme side of it. 100 hours of blasphemy, not to mention serious drops in strength, mana, and hp for the same time peroid, is rough.

As it stands, there are people who have their job responsibilities as "Demon Hunters", and they're Avatars. Their helpfile even says how they are given special powers to take demons out. As I have never had an Avatar, I don't know what those powers are, but I've had two demons. .... Well, I was going to say that I've fought Avatars before, but I never have with either of my Demons... huh. Forget that last point

A-G brings up a good point about the willing host but also, it has to do with the source of their power. Discord and Chaos are the power behind the demon. Death is the power behind undead, vampires, and liches. Healers combat death, not discord.

Yeah, w00t, let's overpower Healers even MORE! Yeah!

Seriously, why do Healers need a spell to overcome what they can already kill/battle with EXTREME ease? I've fought MANY demons in the past with my healers; battlemage demons, berserker demons, and cleric demons. Guess what? I killed them, or nearly killed them all. We don't need Exorcism. :-)

Well, if Chaos is also a power behind Demons, why not allow people who follow Chaos as a religion be able to apply for Demons as well?

Well' date=' if Chaos is also a power behind Demons, why not allow people who follow Chaos as a religion be able to apply for Demons as well?[/quote']

This is as good an answer for this question.

I always saw discord as the malicious version of chaos.

Wolfeman nailed it.

Combine evil with chaos and you pretty much end up with Discord.

Discord is a religion of chaos. Guile and Greed are like compassion and Tranquility for going avatar.

Also, when I played a demon I had healers going after me left and right, I killed saisha and pesomuvae a few times. Maybe because they were knights and I was nexus but all healers seemed to come my way.

They were knights fighting nexus, not healers fighting demon.

And Discord is not a religion of Chaos. It's a religion of Chance.

Chaos is a religion of Equilibrium.

I was thinking more along he lines that an EXORCISM is a form of healing, at least to the healer..so instead of pursuing killing the demon, he pursues to banish the demon from his body.

Gives healers another something to do, because having played many of them, they could use another task, especially since resurrection was made basically useless by its ineffectiveness to PK death, so no one ever asks for them anymore.

There is nothing out of a healer's RP about performing an exorcism on someone who has become posessed, even if they did want it to happen, the healer should see that its not in their best interrest to be posessed and try and help them, even if they don't want it. Beyond that, its also a battle against the spirit which is inhabitin the demon.

Maybe the penalties are a bit harsh, but I think similar effects should be backlashed onto the healer if he fails.

Everyone always complains healers do nothing but sit around, right?

Well...here they would be doing more.

Everyone complains they never die, right?

Well...a failed exorcism would make them easier to kill.

It wouldn't overpower healers...because they still wouldn't be allowed to KILL demons...but rather to mortally cripple them.

okay, okay, okay... healers cannot battle demons. that's fine. let's make a class that can: parapsychologist. Obviously anyone who would want to be possessed would have to have major mental issues. Here's their key abilities:

Analyze: a low level skill that lets the parapsychologist identify why the person would want to become possessed. Grants bonuses for using other skills. (Like study to assassinate.)

"Tell me about your mother."

Shrink's Couch: A high level skill that allows the parapsychologist to set up an office. Grants immense bonuses to all skills and spells but there is a huge delay between uses. And, of course, it isn't mobile.

Lecture: A spell of immense power with high risk. Properly executed on a demon, the caster would get on their soapbox and go into great detail about why the demon is a ****up and should get their act together. The caster gains a moral victory and great mental strength from it while the demon loses all demonic bonuses from the sheer weight of the brow beating.

"If your mother saw you like this, she'd have a stroke! Why can't you finish your education! Go get a job! Why are you such a slob!?!"

Heh, The True A.S.S. is back.

Oh damn...that was sarcasm?

stops outlining new class

EDIT: Of course, this would a be gnome-only class.

i'm sorry my sarcasm isn't up to my old standards. but i'm trying to be good. seriously, i'm pretty sure that i'm the only imm that's ever been forum banned. I'm trying to avoid all that.

well clearly you havent been too much of an *** if u got immed in the first place.

well clearly you havent been too much of an *** if u got immed in the first place.

Not true, even imms need a lil @$$ too.

A path choice could be MD, so they could change herbs into prozac, haldol, and so forth, and with a court order from Tribunal could force you to take them.

So if they make viagra, does that mean hitroll goes up like +20?
