Cleave

My dkn has started seventeen pk battles with cleave, and not one of them has landed never mind making them collapse.

Perhaps im doing something wrong, hmm let give you a little more info:

Mastered cleave, using two handed weapon that is heavyish with 35 wieght, any suggestions to what the problem could be? Or is cleave notorious for its failure to work in pk? Against mobs it works about 40% of the time, so its not too bad. But in seventeen battles would have thought id manage to sucessfully execute one cleave!

I can see that a successful cleave that knocks a foe unconscious is pretty rare and is quite the large advantage for the dkn, but ive not even got a landed cleave, by that i mean a demolish or disintegrate or whatever, its just a generic round, so im assuming i failed the cleave.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Use an axe.

Also, try it on a sleeping opponent.

I heard a two handed polearm with the same wieght as a two handed axe has the same chance to successfully dkn cleave, or are you saying an axe is better?

Obvious pun aside, a nice heavy axe will do nicely. Why not check out what the friendly-neighborhood BMGs are dancing these days while you're out and about?

I remember I had the same problem on the first DKN I played, I deleted it because I thought it was bugged. Then I had the same problem again on my second one and then again on my third. All of them had it mastered. Then on my forth I didn't even practice the skill.

Bah I was afraid of that, a heavy two handed axe to start cleave on classes that do not have counter, and then switch my weapons accordingly hmm thats way too many rarities.

Double sheath would be handy right now.

Hmm one would argue not to even bother with the lagging cleave, its too much hassle, theres probably better things I could be doing.

Yeah cleave is mastered it just doesnt bloody work in Pk, only against mobs.

Fought another three people since the original post with that same heavy polearm weight 35 but still nada keep failing the cleave, Im not going to bother getting a heavy two handed axe either, it should cleave well enough with a polearm, and I just havent got the rarity space. (20 pk battles where ive started with cleave and it hasnt worked once).

Cleave should lag the foe a round or two it would be nice, as I would rather swap cleave for charge immediately.

Im no longer going to bother cleaving anyone, im just going to go the boring dirt kick route.

Why bother asking about a skill if you aren't going to take the advice given, NooB? Why not trade out the rare polearm you're using(since I'm pretty sure I know who you are) for a rare heavy axe? Or even a non-rare heavy axe(though I don't know of any...)/

Well...there is a rare polearm I can think of that might help in cleaving. I'm pretty sure an axe would work better though. Check the weapon table for the reason why. Also...35 weight isn't the weight cap on objects. You can find several weapons that are heavier and pretty beastly damage wise. You might want to try to find a way to stop missing your cleave too...just something to consider.

Theres a cleaver that provides a bonus to cleave. I hid it in Val. Peek around Where do you think a cleaver might be?

This won't help you too much at 50 though. Mainly to be a good DK you just have to be genuinely sneaky and find the right time to attack.

Energy drain can be totally sick...or totally suck.

Also...unless you're totally sure the silence will work, I wouldn't suggest giving anyone 2 free rounds to beat your *** down.

actually the original poster of this thread was current in doing "due diligence." he explored the skill in question from multiple angles, got into a good few PK fights and reported on what he's experienced. ^5

ed: something like this skill from the experiences of other might suggest that cleave is akin to sleep spell at 50. it could land, but most often if it were ever to land it would be either due to rather rare situational circumstances, or an accompanying cabal skill that augments/enhances a skill like cleave or a spell like sleep.

With a polearm, only though. From his post, I can only see that he's tried cleaving with a polearm. From his post only, I can see that he hasn't tried cleaving 20 times with an axe of equal weight, or sword, or whatever else he can cleave with. So the OP has tried said skill with one weapon, 20 times. He should now try the same skill 20 times with a different weapon type, and different weapon weight, before discounting the collective experience of the playerbase.

This is not meant to be a d***, it's just that he hasn't fully explored or experimented with the skill to just totally throw it out the window.

Hah im pretty sure you dont know who I play Corpsestomp as there are around three dark knights that I have seen who wield a rare polearm with 35 weight, unless you play the other two that I know of;) .

I suppose I wasnt very clear but aye Ive used several weapons attempting to cleave my foe, but stuck to the polearm at later ranks as its a two handed weapon and the heaviest ive got my hands on so far. (was using a emerald sword a few occaisions and whispering axe at a few other points which are not heavy at all)

Also I dont really want to be Cleaving with a two handed axe as its parrying efficiency is sucky against many foes. Although if I can manage to find a really heavy NON RARE two handed axe then I would be grateful for the hint as to where it is .

Also no way in hell am I going to trade out my polearm for a two handed axe, not if I actually want to survive against certain foes, its saved my butt so far, and chopped a few others in the bargain.

As a dkn I switch weapons to what foe I am currently battling, as I previously stated in this thread I have too many rarities and thus cannot hold another rare, so a none rare two handed axe is the only option I guess.

I am aware that axe is more offensive and I need to be more accurate to aid in making the cleaving more successful, accuracy ive sorted, axe Ill be needing to discover.

My observations from this char is that the conclusion for cleave is that the Offense type of a weapon has much more bearing upon cleave than the weight, (been trying to find a heavier polearm than get an axe, what can I say? I enjoy the defense of the polearm) so if you want to cleave use a two handed axe or dont bother.

I could I suppose experiment fully and test out the ratio of landed cleaves when using such an axe but current circumstances negate this idea.

Mali great advice and thanks but ive already discovered that cleaver and its weak and rare, and the right time to attack? Its hard to find a sleeping oponent now a days.

Cleave may as well just be thrown out of the window for this char at this moment in time Corpsestomp, thats my prerogative and im not forcing that on anyone, so there go be groucy on someone else eh .

Heh dont forget to PM me a hint and only a hint mind of any heavy non rare two handed axes, by heavy I mean 35 weight or more.

My post wasn't aimed at you, mostly, it was at goldbond, for saying that you've examined it from many angles. 20 cleaves with the same polearm is great, but if you want to explore a skill fully, you need to try it with lots of different weapon types and weights.

I'm glad you've tried with different types, but I don't think you should give up on cleave until you've given it a few more tries. Yes, polearm is more defensive than an axe, but dark-knights are a powerhouse offensively. They're meant to be played 'balls-to-the-wall' style, and dish out more damage than they receive.

Keep looking for heavier weapons, and maybe try a few different polearms and axes before you give up. Props for sticking with the dk though, I know I never had the patience to.
