Sermon landing rate decreased ?

I noticed that i am landing sermon on a lower rate than Summon.

Does anyone also notices this ?

In the past landing sermon was always easy.

But now Sermon lands even less than Summon.

For example a character i can summon multiples times with ease, i have a really hard time sermoning him.

Or did Sermon got bumped into the Charm Spells category ?

Not that i mind, but Knowing would be helpful.

After all i dont wish to be sermon spaming a elf, if its a Charm related spell.

But on other hand if this is a decreased landing rate a la Maledictive Spells, i would curse before Sermon.

Sermon has had two MAJOR changes in the last year or so.

The biggest one was a bug, that caused it to save against svs-Breath rather than svs-Mental. As the breath saves is something left in the code from stock, and we don't use it, that ment that you had no realistic way of saving against it at all.

Then it got changed in its application, made harder to land, but with a longer duration. The longer duration kept the Mana drain on each tic, but gave the person affected a chance to save against getting the lag at the tic each time.

I don't think you're correct about the second change.

Sermon was not made harder to land by the second change. Rather, it was made so that when you landed it, it had an increased duration. However, every tick your victim has a chance to resist the lag caused by sermon.

At the very least, however, they do not regain any mana, even when they save. I am unsure, however, whether they still lose mana (if they save against the lag. I know they lose mana if they don't). It has been a while since I have fought an evil cleric.

Yes, you do not lose mana on a sucefull sermoned save.

But you also do not gain.

In my opinion it has changed from a Lag spell to a mana-regen lock.

Very usefull vs Clerics and Paladins, due to the nature of Atriction fights.

Can possibly still be use to lag low saves meeles, and giants.

"Then it got changed in its application, made harder to land, but with a longer duration."

I think i have my answer here. Sermon is harder to land compared to common mental spells. So i will start to force curse before sermon.

Listen to this guy.

A statement that will haunt Malchaeius' dreams, therefore haunting every single char's dreams, for eternity.

Mya: You should curse before sermon anyway, because most people will start to fight more defensively, if not all out escape once sermoned.

Most people will run if Curse+Sermon.

With only sermon, they are more easy to lure and fight.

With curse landing fairly easy. Or Plague finishing it.

But i understanded what Malch said:

Curse first, so that reduced saves increase chance for lag.

Lol screw that, I never fight with sermon unless the cleric is at 20% hp and Im at 80% hp and no matter what happens they cant kill me in the lag time

Amen fellow ranger mutter

Then again I have -80 saves across the board.... Hmmm..

I need to fight more clerics...

...Your a halfling? Why -80... Such overkill.

I dunno... Just worked out that way... Not like I plan anything.

Actually, as I learned with Taeim versus Merista (WagesofSin's invoker), halflings can still take a LARGE amount of damage from afflictive spells, particularly those of an invoker with a fully charged staff.

Merista came very close to beating Taeim many, many times.

Cylandas actually DID beat me. He cheated, as drow are wont to do, but he did beat me.

Certain afflictive spells do cut through saves very nicely though.

But Aulian… -80?! Heck, -80 across the board would be overkill on an Ogre never mind a Halfer. Talk about compromising on your hit/dam eh?

But Dey...

Thats why I know how to get lots of haste and which herbs are useful

Yeah, but dropping your saves a bit in exchange for some more hit/dam, and THEN using the herbs and haste as well would be much better, right?

  • 80 as a halfling LOL Talk about absolutely useless saves

You could save against breath with save versus spell. In 1.0 this was less of an issue because svs was much more common.

There was a shield that gave like 3 or 6 save breath.
