Is it worth it to get loads of ac over hp equipment? I've always gone with more hp, cause I never noticed too many benefits from high ac. There's supposed to be misses? But people seem to have so much hit that it doesnt seem to matter.
Ac vs Hp
AC, as I've seen it, is damage reduction of any melee damage. A good balance inbetween is good, but you should probably have at least -200 or more ac, then I'd start looking for more hp... I'm assuming you're working with a magelike class due to melee-classes not too concerned with either of those as much as hit/dam.
Depends on the class.
Invokers NEED hp eq.
Clerics NEED ac.
I felt bad after posting cuz I didn't elaborate enough.
Invokers need hp so they can last longer while dealing their massive amounts of damage. Ac, for an invoker, is less important because they don't need to take less damage so much as last those necessary few rounds to kick their oponnent's ***.
Clerics need ac because they need to monitor the damage they take, and make sure it doesn't conflict with the damage they can heal or regenerate. A healer/cleric can regen a certain amount of hp a round, so as long as they are dealt less than that, they are fine. More hp would just make them be able to last a little longer, but more ac makes them be able to last virtually forever.
Tell me what class/race and I will tell you more specificaly what eq stats I would aim for.
It doesn't cause misses usually, it causes your defenses (I'm not sure which--definitely dodge but at least some of the others as well) to work better. You get hit less with lower (i.e. higher negative number) AC.
Lol. Curious, so what does Ac do exactly? I was referring to mage classes in general (i.e. cleric to invoker). Does it help you take less damage, take more misses, help parry work better, or a mix of some?
edit: Thanks, btw. I've always been curious as to how it works.
A mix. It can absorb damage and help defenses work better so you take less hits from my understanding.
Tell you what. You shoot for -400 or so ac, and I'll just be sitting here...rolling an Invoker. ![]()
K, and my healer would OWN your ***...vokers can't take down healers.
Thanks, I think ill experiment and shoot for high ac. Hope it helps with parry at the very least. ![]()
Actually a Healer wouldn't own an Invoker. An Invoker would own any Healer, depending on the saves the Healer has. The Invokers I had owned Healers. An Invoker can still own a Healer. In fact, the bane of Healers I'd place at a tie between Vampires and Invokers. The reason being is that if you screw up something or fail something vs. a Vampire, you're going down farely quickly vs. a smart Vamp player. Invokers because of a Healers high ac will be brought down FAST by an Invoker. In fact, so fast, that you'd wish you hadn't had such an encounter.
The supposed Shamans that are the bane of Healers is nonexistant with Healers anymore. The saves are impossibly too high, and when a Shaman finally manages to land blasphemy, a smart Healer will have it cured in a few seconds anyways.
My healers have died to virtualy ever class but invokers...
They just can't dish out more damage a round than a healer can heal.
and vamps...you kidding??!?!?!
HEALERS ARE THE BANE OF VAMPS!
NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
You've not been fighting very intelligent Vamps then. Go fight ???. Or even Messalantha. For all I care, the other ones (unless played by someone who knows what they're doing) you'll probably beat them. And as a Healer, Healers can stomp any class that ends up having a bad player behind them. Doesn't mean that the person wont ever improve, just look at Despiser. He went from piss poor to bad *** in a small amount of time from what I hear. I only knew him after he reached the bad *** mark for the most part. Then he just slaughtered me left and right and some of those marks still sting. And an Invoker can deal out FAR more damage to a Healer than a Healer can heal. Trust me on that. You just haven't fought any intelligent Invokers if you have had every Invoker beaten.
AC is worth it for the most part, unless you are going to fight an invoker. Then, is when you need to drop your AC, add to your -affl, and you should be fine. And Tantangel, any smart invoker cannot beat any smart Healer, simply because call lightning will do what, LACERATES/MUTILATES when you have AC at -100 or so? Now, if the healer was a dumbass, I can see an Invoker owning a healer. But from my experiences, invokers cannot outright own any healer, especially when they can't use call ligtning to their disposal. I've had Ice storm do LACERATES/MUTILATES because of my extremely high AFFL saves.
As for Messalantha, I've come very close to beating her many times on my halfer way back when. I almost toasted her when her and all the other Syndicates, + Chayesh were taking over Miruvhor, and Izlimak was born. It goes both ways; but if the healer is a smart one, he or she shouldn't die to anything, regardless if the person he's fighting is 'smart or not'.
edit: and really, that goes for ALL classes against ALL other classes.

But what the hell does a green frog puppet know anyway???
Sorry acerbity
I just can never take you seriously when I see that pic ![]()
Ha ha ha.
Assuming equal preparation, equipment, and player skill...
Classes that own healers: shamans, necros, vamps, maybe thieves
Classes that can't touch healers: melee classes
Classes that can run off a healer: invoker, bmg
You can't kill what you can't keep in battle.
When you get to the point of an Invoker fighting a smart Healer, that's where you begin throwing Cabals into the mix. I still say an Invoker will win.
