Locked Grog (WM Barbarian Elder Berserker) vs Akalic (Warmaster Inductee Ranger)

Here is a very hot log that i gathered when facing the new Inductee in Warmaster.

As a personal rule that i set, No cabal skills were used, nor consumables because Inductees cant use anything.  Although Grog lost, still want to share how Warmasters should deal with Inductees (In my Opinion). Enjoy watching Grog get wrecked by a Ranger (Although it was really close)!

Fighting without sanc is quite disadvantageous for zerkers, since they, out of all the heavy melees, are able to get rid of it.

That being said, props for leveling the field, but I don't think you should give up that much. You are in the cabal for a reason after all. Sanc is enough IMO, otherwise where do you draw the line? If the doesn't wear rings you remove yours too? Of course, everyone is free to go as far as he wants.

I think I said it in discord as well, but this is why i view Inductee challenges the way i do:

1. Being an Elder in the cabal gives me access to some truly awesome skills.

2. These skills hurt. A LOT.

3. Given that even though it is a Cabal, Warmaster members should be close because of the enemies that they face.

4. Completely crushing someone into the ground who cannot use anything but their basic raw commands, to me and my character, does not build this trust, and is not enjoyable for either party. Plus, it doesn't allow time for observation, or how someone reacts under pressure.  Sure it would be nice to see Unspeakables, but I'd rather build a relationship of Trust in the Cabal, and Warmasters do that though fighting one another, and also in service fighting our enemies.

Yea, I know full well what the skills can do. I've played wms before where people where going all out (haste sanc armor shield stone skin flesh armor enlarge) and you're just sitting there like yea, I used warcry I'm ready. Then you get absolutely embarassed, then they are like yea, I'd love another fight if you need one. That's the most difficult part of playing a wm, spending 10 hours pretending that stuff doesnt bother you. Props to Yonex who understands inductee period sucks terribly, and goes out of their way to make it more bearable.

Its too true to not be funny. WM inductee period is just.. its just not fun.

In the course of playing fair, it ends up looking like you're overhandicapping yourself.  People get upset getting their stuff cleaved in a duel, but that doesn't leave you with many other skills to tip the fight in your favor.

I used to let them pick. I won’t cleave, but I’m gonna use X skill. If you don’t agree, better burnproof your shit.

I played a wm zerk and as inductee was yelled at for using cleave, versus decked elders using every cabal skill lol. They spent my entire 10 hours inductee period seeing who could hit me the hardest then laughing while I was stunned. Literally 3 T or E wms seeing who could buff and stun me the fastest. Never had something more frustrating happen in game. And they talked down to me and belittled my char for using cleave, and had 0 inhibitions about fully buffing, using every skill they had, to fight an inductee

This i have a problem with any way you skin it; its slimy. 

Yes, Grog is a Barbarian, but Honor is above all else. Of course im going to use every base skill at my disposal, but I am not in the business of just wrecking someone when they dont have the ability to defend themselves.  I've seen what the Trusted skills do to an Inductee, as one of the Duels/challenges that I did with a previous Inductee, he/she wanted to see what they could do.  Needless to say, It was a VERY short fight, and frankly, if i had someone do that to me while i had no chance to stop it, I wouldn't been in Warmaster right now, because that is not what i signed up for.

I disagree that it's slimy. Never had a WM of any note. But the RP help file describes a grizzled, battle hardened group of fighters who fight bc they love battle. 

 battle is icky, gruesome, emotionally traumatic. Definitely will there be a sense of honor etc. But I think of WM as something closer to a Marine Corps boot camp or Navy SEALS, or e - military mercenary group. For basic military training They DESTROY YOU emotionally before they try to build you back up (the way they want you). This could (don't  have to) do this as WM. Beat you within an inch of your life to prove as a warrior you aren't half as great as you think you are, they're always superior, and then they build you on their foundation the way they want you to fight. Once you're an initiated Member they start treating you a LITTLE Differently. By the time you're T they treat you like one of their own...then you get to emotionally berate the new "maggots".

 

Sidenote: never been in the military. My deep and abiding understanding of military is all from Hollywood. So take the above with a bag of salt.

 

Extra note: I think  this could be a great rp angle but you should be careful to keep it very blatantly RP and no possibility of this being an OOC chest puffer about you as a player. If you made such a char who could do this well, I think there  might  be a strong influx of WM who wanna "survive" WM boot camp and prove themselves...but maybe not..

From the military angle, comradery/camaraderie (i included both spellings) is EXTREMELY important. Training is just as important. 

If you just smash someone into the ground, bitterness and resentment come in.  Not saying that i treat people with kid gloves in game while in character, and everyone who has had dealings with my character knows that when he means business, all bets are off.

And I think that's a great  way to run it.no complaints here. Just saying I see other viable approaches to it. Not suggesting you should do them tho. Stick with your way. It's working. You like it. Other WM like it. If anyone besides you doesn't like it. Tough luck buttercup. Ya know?

I too support playing your character how you want to. Maybe someone can roll a benevolent, good Warlord who helps Inductees and does charity after CRUSHING YOUR ENEMIES! :D

You have to understand that each one of the people that did that to you had to go through the same thing and were probably treated the same way. Be the bigger person and break the cycle with personal example. Posting something like this only makes you sound entitled, because you demand treatment different to what any other normal inductee would get.

With all due respect, expecting different (better, special) treatment compared to others IS the definition entitlement, no matter how you phrase it.

And there's something frustrating about every cabal's RP. For me, playing a knight is frustrating. You don't see me complaining and trying to change their RP though, since I understand the problem is with me, not the cabal. Same with Tribunal.

I personally would consider it insulting if, as an Inductee, everyone was treating me with kid gloves. I got smashed like anyone during my Inductee periods. I've had a Stone Warrior, Halfelf Monk, and Feral Thief in Warmaster and each time it was a unique and interesting experience. You don't lose anything for dying, I always collected solid nonrare gear until M, and few people even the griefers wouldn't loot it. I never got mercy and I never wanted any. I did not think my time was wasted at Inductee. The Warmaster experience is a rare and valuable one, imo. You can be a ruthless Warlord, cut out spines and demand fear and respect from your subordinates, or be a benevolent Gladiator and lift everyone out of the dirt after a stun loss. There's no wrong way to do it, so because an evil Warlord makes you feel like shit... that's probably the intention. Learn from it and grow, or don't I guess.
