Why not just turn on quiet mode?

I thought the issue was wanting to correspond with your prey/victim/whatever as a thief/ranger/hidden person without them being able to correspond just to see that you're still online... which going in and out of quiet mode will still inform them of... as it will just say, "They're not receiving any tells." (<- or something to that magnitude)
which is why I've always thought using notes was/is the best option. not as quick as a tell, but it keeps them from knowing whether or not you're still about. shrug
