Don't forget the golden rule of RP -
Nobody gives a crap about your character.
Let me clarify the meaning of that. As players, we are intrinsically ego-centric with our characters. Of course, it's only natural to be wonderstruck by your own RP angle. However, other people also feel the same way about theirs. I find that I've gotten more RP by being a character learning about others than a character pushing her own story. People are more willing to engage in RP if you let them take the focus, even if you feel your RP is better.
